The Ramon Magsaysay Award winner Shanta Sinha and feminist researcher Kalyani Sen Menon have filed the accompanying writ petition under Article 32 of the Constitution of India in public interest challenging the constitutional validity of the Aadhaar (Targeted Delivery of Financial and other Subsidies, Benefits and Services) Act, 2016  raising various issues, including among others, protection of fundamental rights under Article 14, 19 and 21 of the Constitution of India in Supreme Court. The Petitioner submit that the accompanying writ petition may be treated as part and parcel of this application arid the contents of the same are not repeated herein for the sake of brevity.

It is submitted that the different ministries of the Union fo India have issued different Notifications under Section 7 of the Aadhaar (Targeted Delivery of Financial and other Subsidies, Benefits and Services) Act, 2016, making possession of an Aadhaar number a mandatory condition for obtaining social benefits.
