The Auditing and Assurance Standards Board (AASB) of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI), under the authority of the ICAI Council, has issued the Exposure Draft of the “Guidance Note on Audit of Banks (2026 Edition)” on 13 February 2026 for public comments. The Guidance Note is revised annually to provide comprehensive direction to statutory auditors conducting audits of banks and bank branches. The proposed 2026 edition aims to update and refine audit guidance in line with current regulatory and professional requirements. Stakeholders, including auditors and other interested parties, are invited to review the Exposure Draft and submit their comments. Feedback may be sent via email to the AASB or by post to the ICAI office in Noida. The last date for submission of comments is 23 February 2026. The initiative reflects ICAI’s consultative approach in strengthening audit standards and ensuring robust auditing practices in the banking sector.

Exposure Draft of Guidance Note on Audit of Banks (2026 Edition)
The Auditing and Assurance Standards Board (AASB) of ICAI under the authority of the Council of ICAI brings out the revised edition of “Guidance Note on Audit of Banks” every year to provide detailed guidance to auditors on statutory audit of banks and bank branches. AASB is in the process of bringing out the Guidance Note on Audit of Banks (2026 Edition).
