Job Experience
I joined the Customs, Central Excise and Service tax department in January 1973 and gained wide experience and exposure to all the areas relating to indirect tax law during the official career which started at the level of lower division clerk and ended at the level of member of the Customs, Excise, Service Tax Appellate Tibunal.
During this long career, I was part of the Project steering committee for development of risk management system in Customs, part of the team which developed an audit manual in collaboration with Canadian revenue officers; part of the Indian delegation to Sri Lanka and Nepal in relation to Customs work; part of committees set up for considering refund system, staffing in Central Excise etc. I also underwent training in the Hague in the Netherlands and in Ottava in Canada during my service. I received Presidential award for distinguished service record in the year 2005. During my career I held posts which gave me an all round exposure in all areas of indirect taxes and for 7 years from 2008, I was member of the Tribunal and retired from service on 17 July 2015. Thereafter I have been active as a consultant.
