D.O.No.29/CH(IC)/2020

Dear Colleague

It is always a matter of pleasure for me and the Board as a whole when staff welfare measures are successfully concluded. The guidelines for financial Ex-Gratia payments from the Welfare Fund had been taken up for revision of amounts by the Board. As per the revised guidelines, the Governing Body has enhanced the Ex-Gratia financial assistance to departmental officials/staff substantially. Credit for issuing the revised rates circular would also go to the active support by DG Ms. Neeta Lall Butalia and her team in DGHRD who ensured that the proposals were put up and followed up for quick finalization so that it benefits all service members at the earliest. The circular may be publicized among our officers and staff and those eligible should be given due relief without delay.

I am informed that all the formations of CBIC have now been on-boarded and are live on e-Office. We are one of the few services that has operationalised this application on an All India basis. Senior officers should ensure a smooth and successful transition to this innovative system. I am sure a nudge by senior management would see all zones adapting to this new way of work in a short time.

It is heartening to note that field formations have been active in taking care of the health of their staff. NACIN, Faridabad, and Ranchi Zone at Patna had organised special Rapid Antigen Diagnostic Test Camps for 222 and 125 staff members respectively with the help of the District Administration. The good news is that all those tested showed negative results for Covid.

Last week saw another step taken by India towards continuing the close bilateral cooperation and the warm and special relationship with our friendly neighbouring countries. In order to help ensure uninterrupted flow of essential supplies during the pandemic to Bhutan. trade has been allowed through a new route via Ahllay. The officers of Kolkata Customs (Preventive) and, in particular, the officers and staff of Jaigaon Land Customs Station have done an appreciable job in proactively taking action to facilitate the EXIM trade through this alternate route.

Bringing pride to the Department, Shri Sandeep, Tax Assistant, Audit II Comm’rate, CGST Delhi Zone, has been awarded with the prestigious `Arjuna Award’ for the year 2020 by the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Government of India. The award has been bestowed to him primarily for his gold medal winning performances at `Handisport Open Paris, 2019′ held at Paris and also at ‘World Para Athletics Championships, 2019’ held at Dubai. It is after a gap of 17 years that someone from the department has got this prestigious award. The Board celebrated his achievement today by felicitating him with a token of appreciation from the CBIC fraternity. I wish him more success in the years to come.

A few days ago, I had welcomed three new members to the Board. This week the Board has been further strengthened by the decision to extend the tenure of Member Shri S.M. Bhatnagar by a year. Personally, his continued presence in the Board will be a source of support.

We are in the midst of a festive season and I take this opportunity to convey my greetings and wishes for good health to all officers and staff, and their families.

with best wishes

Yo is sincerely
