Chartered Accountants Australia & New Zealand (CA ANZ) announces a Pilot International Pathway Programme for ICAI Members
The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) has entered into a unilateral arrangement “Pilot International Pathway Scheme” with Chartered Accountants Australia & New Zealand (CA ANZ) for ICAI members based in Australia and New Zealand. The said pathway program is in addition to the proposed MoU, which is before the Government for approval.
Through this scheme, ICAI members based in Australia and New Zealand would get the membership of CA ANZ in addition to ICAI membership by completing 40 hours of self-study programme and attending a two days workshop in less than one month’s time. The participants shall be evaluated through oral and written assessments during the workshop.
This Pilot International Pathway Programme would aid India’s focus for facilitating export of accountancy services and promotion of global mobility of accountancy services in digital world which is earmarked as one of the important Champion Sector initiative of the Government of India. The scheme would increase the professional avenues for our members in Australia & New Zealand by facilitating recognition of Indian accountancy professionals with local Accountancy qualification in addition to existing ICAI qualification. The scheme would foster strong working relations between the two accounting institutes and would provide better opportunities to Indian Chartered Accountants in Australia & New Zealand. ICAI has around 1500 members in Australia & New Zealand and has three Overseas Chapters in Australia and one in New Zealand. This scheme would provide an opportunity to these members to expand their profession horizon and herald a new dimension for business globally.
About ICAI
The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India(ICAI) is a statutory body established by an Act of Parliament viz., The Chartered Accountants Act, 1949 in the year 1949 for regulating the profession of Chartered Accountants in the country. The Institute, which functions under the administrative control of Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Government of India, has five Regional Councils and 163 branches covering the length and breadth of the country. In addition, it has also set up 31 chapters outside India.

About CA ANZ
The Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CA ANZ) is the operating name for the Institutes of Chartered Accountants in Australia and New Zealand. Chartered Accountants ANZ represents over 117,000 members in Australia, New Zealand and overseas. CA ANZ was created in 2014 by the merger of the Institute of Chartered Accountants Australia (ICAA) and the New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants (NZICA). Both organisations were over a century old. The merger boosted both institutes’ global influence, and gave them greater policy, advocacy and education capability.
The Pilot International Pathway Programme of CA ANZ
The Pilot International Pathway Programme of CA ANZ is a unilateral offer by CA ANZ to ICAI members based in Australia and New Zealand and is in addition to the proposed MoU.
The salient features of the CA ANZ International Pathways program is as under:-
a) The programme examines the contemporary Australasian business, accounting and finance environment relevant for CAs of ICAI and other international bodies seeking to become members of CA ANZ.
b) Members must be living in Australia or New Zealand to be eligible to apply.
c) The programme is designed around a two day workshop and is being piloted in Sydney and Melbourne. During this time the programme will be refined to then be implemented into mainstream offerings longer term.
d) Prior to the two day workshop, it is expected that up to 40 hours of self-study will be required to complete all necessary pre-work.
e) During the workshop participants will be assessed through oral and written communication tasks and assessments. All assessments will take place during the workshop.
f) Members will also have the option to complete the Capstone Module of the CA ANZ CA Program if they prefer during this pilot.
Other details are as below:-
A. The Eligibility criteria to sit for the program is as under:-
1. A fully qualified Chartered Accountant of ICA India (does not apply to CA members who have been admitted under third party recognition agreements);
2. Hold a recognised Bachelor’s degree comparable to a NZ/AU Level 7 Bachelor’s degree;
3. Have the minimum pre-membership experience of ICA India;
4. Be a member of good standing and compliance with all CPD regulations
B. Criteria for applying for CA ANZ Membership
A participant who has successfully completed the CA ANZ Pilot International Pathways Programme will need to:-
1. Provide a copy of a legal document confirming his/her name;
2. Provide one reference from a fully qualified member of ICA India;
3. Provide one reference from a current CA ANZ member who may either be a CA or a FCA
4. Payment of relevant full membership application fees in order to meet the eligibility requirements for membership admission.
