The government is set to raise the threshold for independent verification of corporate transactions in the Companies Bill , diluting a proposal it made before a key Parliamentary panel. In view of the foregoing, it is advised that henceforth, banks should not issue Tier 1 or Tier 2 capital instruments with ‘step-up option’ so that these instruments continue to remain eligible for inclusion in the new definition of regulatory capital.
