The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Wednesday arrested income-tax officer Ranjan Prakash and chartered accountant Vimal Patangia on the allegation that Mr Prakash demanded Rs. 1.5 lacs from the complainant through the CA concerned for getting favourable order in A.Y. 2009-2010 pending with the ITO.
Verification was conducted by the CBI, and it was found that there was a demand from Mr Prakash, and a trap was laid on 19/10/2011.The CBI said Patangia was caught demanding and accepting Rs 1.5 lakh on behalf of Prakash, who is attached to the Piramal Chambers office, Parel. They are in custody till October 24.Searches have been conducted at the residential and office premises of the accused persons resulting in recovery of an amount of Rs. 24,39,000/- from the premises of CA. Prakash had demanded the money for a favourable assessment order. The CBI said Patangia was involved in collecting bribes from his clients to pay the I-T officers to get the settlement of assessment orders. They were produced before the Court and remanded in Police Custody upto Monday.

I support your view, as you said CAs are scapegoats in banking industry too. But there are GANJA plants in Tulsi Garden and some of our community are employing bad practices, they should be eliminated

Well done by the concerned authorities. It is require to treat a chartered accountant who has acted on behalf of somebody. His practicing license should be banned by our esteem Institute ( The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India. )
