This is a famous proverb to allude the inexperienced or rash people attempting things that even the wisest would avoid. I am one of those fools daring to deliberate on ‘How to upload GSTR 9C’!! However, I am sure that if I am foolish anywhere in the coming technical procedure, the learned readers are there to guide for the benefit of profession at large.
I have practically understood the meaning of the proverb – “Try try but dont cry” now. Thanks to official GST portal. There are number of problems faced by Chartered Accountants and tax consultants while uploading form GSTR 9C and I have tried to address solutions through this article.
Following are few important technical tips for filing GSTR 9C on GST Portal. These tips can be really helpful after you have completed the entire audit and filled the GSTR 9C Utility properly.
PROCEDURE:
All of us know that we need to first download GSTR 9C utility from GST portal’s Download section and have to fill all the 15 sheets correctly, still after this our job is not over.
Real trouble will start when we try to create Json file and thereafter. Following are the important steps before generating Json file and for filing GSTR 9C.
Make sure that all the 15 sheets are validated individually on the GSTR 9C Excel Utility.
Make sure that “wsweb” file is in the same folder in PC in which GSTR 9C utility is saved.
If you get any kind of error then you have to compulsorily follow these steps:
a) Please close all the application on your system.
b) open your Internet Explorer
c) Go to Tool–>Internet Option–>Security–>Custom level,
d) you will find two options –
i) “Automatic prompting for Activex control”. Please click on Enable
ii) “Download unsigned Activex Control”. Click on Prompt then click on
e) Now download the Notepad++ from google and follow the following process.
i) Install the Notepad++,
ii) Go to the utility folder, right click on “wsweb.html”—> click on “Edit with Notepad++”
iii) Click after “<html>” tag, give a space after “<html>” tag and then press the backspace.
f) Save the file using “ctrl+S” key, close the file and stop the Emsigner Service, if started.
g) Now start Emsigner again
h) open the utility and try to generate the JSON file again
i) Internet explorer pop-up will come, inside that you’ll get one more pop-up asking for “Allow Blocked content”, click on it then click on “Initiate signing”, then “Open Emsigner”.
4. Even after all these things it doesn’t works then delete emsigner from your PC and download the latest Emsigner and follow all the above steps again!
5. After successful generation of json file now the last challenge is to upload Balancesheet and Profit &Loss in PDF. First upload the json online and then continuously keep trying to attach PDF in online section. It will give you errors but keep trying. At times, you may have to do it from morning till evening then it would get uploaded and then perhaps you can easily file your GSTR 9C.
I hope after all these steps you won’t face any problem in uploading GSTR 9C. Also do not forget to generate UDIN.
Conclusion:
Firstly, never try to confirm above procedure in any Act or Rule book!!
Patience is the key to file GSTR 9C and GST portal will make sure that you not only learn how to upload GSTR 9C but also learn how to be patient.

I think the Computer specialists are looking for jobs under CAs and other business establishments with the way in which we download an utility, fill details, generate a acceptable type of file and look out to upload, then get frustrated unless a professional computer specialist is nearby.. There is no specific field in GSTR-9C to fill in UDIN generated for taxpayer. Tried mentioning near Membership Number but got validation error from excel utility. How to mention UDIN in the Audit Certificate uploaded in GST portal? Please clarify.
