The GST Council has recommended adjustments to the GST rates on a variety of goods for the education sector. The changes primarily involve reducing or eliminating the tax on common school supplies. A number of items, including erasers, maps, pencil sharpeners, pencils, crayons, and notebooks, are proposed to become GST-exempt, with their tax rate moving from 5% or 12% to Nil. Additionally, products such as mathematical boxes, geometry boxes, and color boxes would see a reduction in their GST rate from 12% to 5%.
