The Central Bureau of Investigation has arrested an Enforcement Officer, Employees Provident Fund Organization, Fort Road, Kannur (Kerala) for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs.30,000/- from the complainant.

            A case was registered U/s 7 of PC Act, 1988 against Enforcement Officer, Employees Provident Fund Organization, Sub Regional Office, V.K. Complex, Fort Road, Kannur on a complaint of a proprietor of a Restaurant based at Taliparamba, Kannur. The complainant has alleged that he is running a hotel business at Taliparamba, Kannur and he used to maintain his books of accounts as per procedure. The accused visited the complainant’s firm during August, 2011 and the complainant produced all the documents as demanded by the accused. On a subsequent date, the accused informed the complainant that PF dues for his firm would work out to Rs.3 Lakh and assured that if an amount of Rs.30,000/- is paid to him, he will wave off the entire default amount of Rs.3 Lakh.

            CBI laid a trap and the accused was caught red handed while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs.30,000/- from the complainant.

            The arrested accused was produced in the Designated Court at Cochin and was remanded to Judicial custody.
