The Central Bureau of Investigation has today arrested an Inspector of Central Excise, Service Tax, Cochin(Kerala) for demanding & accepting a bribe of Rs.1.5 lakh from the Complainant.
A case was registered against an Inspector of Central Excise, Service Tax, C.R. Building, Cochin for demanding bribe amount of Rs.1.5 lakh from the complainant who runs an Advertising & Event Management Agency at Cochin. The Complainant had alleged that the accused demanded the bribe from him for waiving off a penalty of Rs.3.75 lakh, which was reportedly to be paid by the complainant, as penalty for violation of certain Service Tax Rules.
CBI laid a trap and the accused was caught red handed while demanding & accepting a bribe of Rs.1.5 lakh from the complainant.
Searches are being conducted at the residence & office of the accused.
The accused is being produced before the Designated Court.
