SEVEN YEARS RIGOROUS IMPRISONMENT TO THEN INSPECTOR, CENTRAL EXCISE IN A BRIBERY CASE

The Special Judge, CBI cases, Dehradun (Uttarakhand) has today sentenced Shri Vikash Jatav , then Inspector, Central Excise, Roorkee to undergo seven years Rigorous Imprisonment with total fine of Rs.20,000 in a bribery case.

A case was registered on a complaint on 06.05.2015 U/s 7 of P.C.Act,1988 against Shri Vikas Jatav, Inspector, Central Excise, Roorkee on the allegations of demanding a bribe for registration of complainant’s firm. CBI laid a trap and the accused was caught red handed while demanding & accepting a bribe of Rs.3500/- from the complainant. A hand written paper where Shri Vikas Jatav wrote Rs.3500/ was also recovered during searches.

After investigation, a chargesheet was filed against accused on 04.07.2015 in the court of Special Judge,CBI Cases, Dehradun.  Charges were framed on 14.9.2015. Ten prosecution witnesses were examined.

The Trial Court pronounced judgement on 24.09.2016 and convicted the accused U/s 7, 13(2) r/w 13(1)(d) of PC Act, 1988.The Court also ordered to open separate cases U/s 344 of Cr.P.C. against witnesses K.K.Anand, Guddu, Rakesh Dhiman and Anubhav Dhiman for giving false evidence before the Court.
