The Government of India, through Public Notice No. 55 (RE-01)/1997-2002, dated December 18, 2001, issued amendments to the Duty Entitlement Pass Book (DEPB) rate list under the Export and Import Policy 1997-2002. Notable changes in Appendix 28A include updates to the engineering product group (Product Code No. 61), such as revised DEPB rates and value caps for forged steel balls made of mild, alloy, and stainless steel and fabricated steel hardware. Additional entries, including PCB routers, were added. In the chemicals product group (Product Code No. 62), the DEPB rate for Reactive Black BA/TA (Chromazol Black BA/TA) was amended. Similarly, the electronics product group (Product Code No. 83) saw the addition of Quartz Analogue wristwatch movements (including CKD/SKD) with specific DEPB rates. These changes aim to align export incentives with product classifications. Issued in public interest, the amendments are enforceable by the Director General of Foreign Trade (DGFT).

In exercise of powers conferred under Paragraph 4.11 of the Export and Import Policy 1997-2002, as notified in the Gazette of India extraordinary, Part-II Section 3, Sub section (ii) vide S.O. No.283(E) dated 31.03.1997, the Director General of Foreign Trade hereby makes the following amendment in Handbook (Vol 1).(RE-01), 1997-2002.
