The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, has amended the import policy for specific categories of silver bars classified under ITC (HS) Codes 71069221 and 71069229 with immediate effect through Notification No. 17/2026-27 dated 16 May 2026. Earlier, imports of these silver products, including bars containing 99.9% or more silver and other semi-manufactured silver bars, were categorized as “Free” subject to RBI regulations. Under the revised framework, these imports are now shifted to the “Restricted” category and made subject to Policy Condition No. 7 of Chapter 71 of ITC (HS) 2022, Schedule-I (Import Policy). The amendment has been issued under the powers conferred by Sections 3 and 5 of the Foreign Trade (Development & Regulation) Act, 1992, read with relevant provisions of the Foreign Trade Policy, 2023. The notification takes effect immediately upon issuance.

S.O. 2537(E).— In exercise of powers conferred by Section 3 and Section 5 of Foreign Trade (Development & Regulation) Act, 1992, read with paragraph 1.02 and 2.01 of the Foreign Trade Policy, 2023, as amended from time to time, the Central Government hereby amends the import policy of ITC (HS) code 71069221 and 71069229 covered under Chapter 71 of ITC (HS) 2022, Schedule – I (Import Policy) with immediate effect:

Effect of the Notification: The Import Policy of items covered under ITC HS Code 71069221 and 71069229 are revised from “Free” to “Restricted” subject to Policy Condition No. 7 of Chapter 71 of ITC (HS) 2022, Schedule – I (Import Policy) with immediate effect.
