The Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board of India (IBBI), through Press Release No. IBBI/PR/2026/13 dated July 1, 2026, has published the syllabus for Phase 10 of the Limited Insolvency Examination (LIE), which will be applicable to examinations conducted from October 1, 2026. The Limited Insolvency Examination is conducted under Regulation 3 of the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board of India (Insolvency Professionals) Regulations, 2016, for individuals aspiring to become Insolvency Professionals. The Regulations authorize the IBBI to determine and publish the examination syllabus at least three months before the examination. Since the commencement of the examination on December 31, 2016, the Board has periodically reviewed and revised the syllabus to ensure it remains aligned with evolving insolvency laws, regulatory changes, and the competencies expected of Insolvency Professionals. The approved Phase 10 syllabus has been published as Annexure-I to the press release and is also available on the IBBI website.

Subject: Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board of India publishes syllabus for Phase 10 of the Limited Insolvency Examination

1. The Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board of India (IBBI) conducts the Limited Insolvency Examination (LIE) in pursuance of regulation 3 of the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board of India (Insolvency Professionals) Regulations, 2016, for prospective Insolvency Professionals. The said Regulations, inter alia, empower the IBBI to determine the syllabus of the LIE, which shall be published on the website of the Board at least three months before the examination.

2. The IBBI commenced the LIE on 31st December 2016. The Board reviews the examination periodically to keep it relevant to the evolving insolvency ecosystem. The examination has undergone periodic revisions to ensure that it reflects the latest legislative and regulatory developments and the competencies required of Insolvency Professionals.

3. In accordance with the aforesaid Regulations, the Board has approved and published the syllabus for Phase 10 of the Limited Insolvency Examination. The revised syllabus shall be applicable to examinations conducted with effect from 1st October 2026.

4. The revised syllabus is enclosed as Annexure-I to this Press Release and is also available on the website of the IBBI (ibbi.gov.in)
