The Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI), functioning under the aegis of the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, will be organizing the 10th ICSI National Award for Excellence in Corporate Governance here tomorrow at SCOPE Convention Centre. Finance Minister, Shri Pranab Mukherjee, will be the Chief Guest. Former Chief Justice of India and Chairman of the Award Jury, Justice R. C. Lahoti, will grace the occasion as Guest of Honour.

The Award will be presented to two best governed companies, whose Company Secretaries will also be felicitated. Certificate of recognition will be presented to other top five companies. The Award, comprising of citation and trophy, is based on the outcome of concerted and comprehensive process of evaluation which enables the Award Jury to judge, the practices of corporate governance as followed by Indian corporates and to acknowledge the best practices worthy of being exemplified.

According to Shri N. K. Jain, Secretary & CEO, ICSI, the Award function will be preceded by a Panel Discussion on ‘CSR – Mandatory or Corporate Benevolence’ and ‘Demystifying Corporate Pyramids- A Governance Perspective’. The Panelists include Shri Y. M. Deosthalee, Chief Financial Officer, Larsen & Toubro Limited, Shri Ravi Kastia, Group Executive President & Business Head, Aditya Birla Group, Shri Jamie Allen, Director General, Asian Corporate Governance Association and Shri Jitesh Khosla, Additional Secretary and Officer on Special Duty, Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs. Shri Jain has said that the Institute of Company Secretaries of India is committed to promoting good corporate governance and has played a pivotal role in creating awareness on various issues impinging upon corporate governance. One of the important initiatives of ICSI to promote good corporate governance is the ICSI National Award for Excellence in Corporate Governance which was instituted in the year 2001 to promote good governance practices amongst the corporates and to recognize those companies worthy of being exemplified.
