In a recent communication addressed to the Chairman/Managing Director & Chief Executive Officer of Lead Banks Concerned, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has announced the assignment of Lead Bank Responsibility for the newly formed district of Biswanath in Assam.

The notification, dated May 15, 2024, outlines the government’s decision to establish Biswanath district in Assam, as per Gazette Notification ECF.No.367433/29 dated September 07, 2023. In response to this development, RBI has designated Indian Bank as the Lead Bank for the newly formed district, with the assigned District Working Code being 407.

Madam/ Dear Sir,

Formation of new district in the State of Assam –Assignment of Lead Bank Responsibility

The Government of Assam has notified formation of a new district, viz., Biswanath in the state of Assam vide Gazette Notification ECF.No.367433/29 dated September 07, 2023. Accordingly, it has been decided to designate the Lead Bank of the new district as below:

(to be read as ‘numeral four, numeral zero and numeral seven’)

2. There is no change in the Lead Banks of the other districts in the state of Assam.
