Food Safety Mitra

Food Safety Mitra (FSM) is an individual professional certified by Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) and performs limited actions on behalf of Food Business Operators (FBOs) with respect to the implementation of FSS Act, Rules & Regulation. There are 3 types of Food Safety Mitra – Digital Mitra, Trainer Mitra and Hygiene Mitra.

Digital Mitra

Person possessing bachelor’s degree, between the age of 21 to 60 years along with working knowledge of computer, internet etc. is eligible to be a Digital Mitra. Digital Mitra performs following actions on behalf of FBOs –

• Filing of new application for License/Registration.
• Filing application for modification of License/Registration.
• Filing of Annual return/Declaration.
• Filing online reply regarding queries raised by Authorities.
• Filing appeal for revocation of Suspended License/Registration.

Trainer Mitra

Person possessing bachelor’s degree in Science/Food Technology/Food Science/Chemistry/Biology/Microbiology and other related subjects, if graduate in other streams, then minimum 5 years’ experience in relevant food industry along with knowledge of FSS Rules and Regulations. Trainer Mitra performs following actions –

• Conducting training of Food Safety Supervisors.
• Conducting training at Eat Right Campuses.
• Conducting training of Food Safety Personnel in businesses on demand.

Hygiene Mitra

Person possessing bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry/Agricultural Sciences/Microbiology/Bio Technology/Hotel Management/Catering Technology/Food/Dairy/Oil Technology/Fisheries/Veterinary Sciences along with knowledge of FSS Act, Rules and Regulations. Hygiene Mitra performs following actions –

• To audit the hygiene of FBO outlets.
• To help FBOs with implementation of hygiene guidelines.
• To train the food handlers and food safety supervisors about safe and hygienic food handling practices.

Registration process of FSM (Food Safety Mitra)

i. Register online on Food Safety Mitra portal – mitra.fssai.gov.in

ii. After registration go for online training programme.

iii. After completion of online training programme there will be an Online Assessment Exam of 100 Marks in which candidate have to acquire minimum 75 Marks for passing the exam.

iv. After passing the exam candidate has to pay Rs. 5000 as Security Deposit.

v. After payment of security deposit Certificate will be granted by the Department.

vi. Validity of the FSM Certificate will be 2 Years.

Renewal of FSM (Food Safety Mitra) Certificate

For renewal of certificate candidate can apply online on Food Safety Mitra Portal – mitra.fssai.gov.in

Candidate has to apply for renewal with in 6 months before the expiry date and up to 6 months after the expiry date of the FSM Certificate.

If candidate has failed to apply with in 6 months after the expiry date, then he will be required to apply for a fresh certificate.

If candidate wants to exit the FSM Scheme, then he can apply for withdrawal of FSM Certificate and Security Deposit through the FSM Portal online.

Charges for FSM Certificate Registration

• FSM Certificate Registration Charges – Rs. 500/-
• FSM Security Deposit – Rs. 5000/- (It is refundable on withdrawal of scheme)
