Public Notice No. 41 (RE-2001)/1997-2002, Dated: 08.10.2001

The Government of India, through Public Notice No. 41 (RE-2001)/1997-2002 dated October 8, 2001, issued by the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, introduced amendments to the Handbook of Procedures under the Export and Import Policy, 1997-2002. Exercising powers under paragraph 4.11 of the policy, the notice specifies the inclusion of Agri Export Zones (AEZ) as Appendix-59. These zones focus on promoting specific agricultural products in designated regions to boost exports. The following districts were declared AEZs: for pineapple, Darjeeling and Jalpaiguri in West Bengal; for gherkins, Tumkur, Bangalore Urban and Rural, Hassan, Kolar, Chitradurga, Dharwad, and Bagalkot in Karnataka; and for lychees, Udhamsingh Nagar and Nainital in Uttarakhand. These zones aim to streamline export-oriented agricultural development, aligning with policy paragraphs 16.2 and 16.3. The notification, issued by Director General of Foreign Trade (N.L. Lakhanpal), was disseminated to all concerned parties for implementation.

In exercise of powers conferred under paragraph 4.11 of the Export and Import Policy, 1997-2002, as notified in the Gazette of India extraordinary, Part-II- Section 3 – Sub- section (ii) vide S.O No. 283(E) dated 31.3.97, the Director General of Foreign Trade hereby makes the following amendment in the Handbook of Procedures (Vol.1) (RE-2001), 1997-2002.

1. The following shall be added as Appendix- 59-

Agri Export Zone

Note: Please see paragraph 16.2 and 16.3 of the Policy

The following shall be notified as an Agri Export Zone for the products mentioned therein. The Agri export zone shall cover the district specified in the table below:
