On May 6, 2004, the Government of India issued Notification No. 42 (RE-2003)/2002-2007, which amended the ITC (HS) Classification of Export and Import Items 2002-2007. Under this notification, certain BIS (Bureau of Indian Standards) standards for various products were deleted from the list of Appendix III to Schedule 1 (IMPORTS). The deleted items included specific standards for self-ballasted lamps, low and high voltage fuses, and low voltage switchgear & control gear, covering components such as circuit breakers, switches, disconnectors, and motor starters. These deletions are made under the powers conferred by Section 5 of the Foreign Trade (Development and Regulation) Act, 1992, and are intended to update and refine the import guidelines in the interest of public trade regulations.

S.O (E) – In exercise of powers conferred under section 5 of the Foreign Trade (Development and Regulation) Act, 1992 read with paragraph 2.1 of the Export and Import Policy, 2002-2007(RE 2003), the Central Government hereby makes the following amendments in the ITC (HS) Classifications of Export and Import Items, 2002-2007 published on 31st March, 2002 as amended from time to time, namely:-
2. The following shall be deleted from the list of Appendix III to Schedule 1 (IMPORTS) of ITC(HS) Classifications of Export and Import Items:
