POLICY CIRCULAR NO. 14(RE-98)

Subject :- Classification of seafood and Aquaculture processed food within the definition of food processing.
Attention is invited to paragraph 6.2 of Exim Policy (RE-98), 1997-2002 wherein the threshold limit for zero duty EPCG scheme has been reduced to Rs. 1 Crore for electronics, Food processing, Garments, leather, sports goods, Gem & Jewellery sector and produce and products of agriculture and allied sectors.

Representation have been received as to whether Seafood and Aquaculture processed food shall be covered within the definition of food processing. The matter was referred to Ministry of Food processing which clarified that seafood and aquaculture processed food shall be covered within the definition of food processing.

In view of the above clarification, the seafood and aquaculture processed food exporters shall be eligible for the benefit of zero duty EPCG scheme provided the value of the capital goods is Rs.1 Crore or more.

This issues with the approval of DGFT.
