THE Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has launched a massive search operation at the office premises and also the residence of Chief Commissioner of Central Excise, Bhopal, Mr Ram Prakash. It is learnt that the CBI had registered some cases against the officer some time back. Looking into the alleged corruption dimension, the CBI sleuths took some time to do the initial homework, and once they deemed it necessary to raid the premises, they have done it this morning. Whether Mr Ram Prakash’s other premises would also be raided will depend on what CBI finds from his residence.
It is learnt that the search is in relation to some cases from his previous posting in Hyderabad apart from some cases from Bhopal too. The CBI has once again stepped up its vigil on the Customs and Central Excise field formations, and have collected some quality inputs. It is believed that some senior officers in Delhi have also come under the radar of CBI for their alleged corrupt practices. Delhi Central Excise has particularly drawn the attention of the CBI and the CVC as well.
