The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has notified the Food Safety and Standards (Vegan Foods) Amendment Regulations, 2026, amending the Food Safety and Standards (Vegan Foods) Regulations, 2022. The amendment follows the statutory consultation process under Section 92 of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, including publication of draft regulations and consideration of public objections and suggestions. The key change relates to Regulation 4(2), which prescribes a revised logo specification that must be displayed on every package of vegan food after obtaining the required approval. The amendment substitutes the earlier provision with detailed dimensions and design specifications for the vegan logo to ensure uniform labeling and identification of vegan food products in the market. The regulations are intended to standardize packaging requirements and improve consumer recognition of approved vegan foods. The amendment will come into force on 1 July 2027, giving food business operators adequate time to align their packaging and labeling practices with the revised regulatory requirements.
