CBDT refunded Rs. 71,229 crore to taxpayers during COVID-19

CBDT has issued refunds worth Rs 71,229 crore in more than 21.24 lakh cases upto 11th July, 2020, to help taxpayers with liquidity during COVID-19 pandemic, since the Government’s decision of 8th April, 2020 to issue pending income tax refunds at the earliest.

CBDT provides Utility to ascertain TDS Applicability Rates on Cash Withdrawals

Income Tax Department has facilitated a new functionality for Banks and Post offices through which they can ascertain the TDS applicability rates on cash withdrawal of above Rs.20 lakh in case of a non-filer of the income-tax return and that of above Rs. 1 Crore in case of a filer of the income-tax return. So far,more than 53,000 verification requests have been executed successfully on this facility.

In view of the Covid 19 pandemic, the Authority has designed a standard Covid specific product addressing basic health insurance needs of insuring public with common policy wordings across the industry. The Authority has mandated general and health insurers to offer this indemnity based Individual Covid Standard Health Policy called ‘Corona Kavach’.

SEBI signs MoU with CBDT to share Data with each other

The MoU will facilitate the sharing of data and information between CBDT and SEBI on an automatic and regular basis. The MoU will ensure that both CBDT and SEBI have seamless linkage for data exchange. In addition to regular exchange of data, CBDT and SEBI will also exchange with each other, on request and suo moto basis, any information available in their respective databases, for the purpose of carrying out scrutiny, inspection, investigation and prosecution.

Income Tax Refund of Rs. 62.36 crore issued during Covid days

Income Tax Department has issued tax refunds at a speed of 76 cases per minute from 8th April to 30th June, 2020. During this period of just 56 weekdays, the Central Board of Direct taxes (CBDT) has issued refunds in more than 20.44 lakh cases amounting to more than Rs. 62,361 crore.
