Section 70(1) of the Finance Act, 1994 (‘Act’ for short) provides that every person liable to pay service tax shall himself assess the tax due on the services provided by him. Besides, this section requires the assessee to furnish return to the Superintendent of Central Excise in the prescribed form and at such frequency.
