How to link your PAN with Aadhaar

Through SMS facility

Send SMS to 567678 or 56161 in following format:

UIDPAN<SPACE><12 digit Aadhaar><Space><10 digit PAN>

Example : SMS to 567678 or 56161:

UIDPAN 111122223333 AAAPA9999Q

Through a-filing portal

go to www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in

While e-filing Income Tax Return

Link of e-filing available on:

Quoting of Aadhaar when applying for new PAN or for PAN details change request

In case of mismatch of name between PAN and Aadhaar

In case of minor mismatch

In case of minor mismatch One Time Password (Aadhaar OTP) will be sent to the mobile registered with Aadhaar. Goto www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in and use link on the left pane i.e. Link Aadhaar → then provide PAN, Aadhaar number and enter name exactly as given in Aadhaar Card {use exact ‘case’ of alphabets and avoid spelling mistakes) and submit.

In case of major mismatch

In case where name in Aadhaar is completely different from name in PAN database then the linkage may fail and the PAN holder has to change the name in either Aadhaar or in PAN database or visit personally to designated PAN application centre of NSDL e- Gov or UTIITSL for Biometric Aadhaar authentication. List of designated PAN centres for Biometric Authentication facility is available on www.tin-nsdl.com and www.utiistl.com

*Exempted category:

Individual

(i) who is residing in the states of Assam, Jammu & Kashmir and Meghalaya;

(ii) a non-resident;

(iii) of the age of eighty years or more;

(iv) who is not a citizen of India
