CBI ARRESTS A DEPUTY CHIEF LABOUR COMMISSIONER AND AN INCOME TAX OFFICER IN SEPARATE CASES OF BRIBERY

The Central Bureau of Investigation has arrested a Deputy Chief Labour Commissioner, Raipur (Chhattisgarh) for demanding & accepting a bribe of Rs.10,000/- from the complainant.

A case was registered U/s 7 of PC Act, 1988 against Deputy Chief Labour Commissioner, Raipur(Chhattisgarh) who demanded illegal gratification of Rs.10,000/- from the complainant for renewal of Labour Licence. CBI laid a trap and the accused was caught while demanding & accepting a bribe of Rs.10,000/- from the complainant. Searches were conducted at the residence & office premises of the accused which led to recovery of cash of Rs.6.40 lakh.

       The arrested accused was produced before the Special Judge, CBI Cases, Raipur and remanded to police custody upto 11.04.2016.

       In another case, CBI has arrested an Income Tax Officer, Ward-I, Gudiwada, East Godavari District (Andhra Pradesh) for demanding & accepting a bribe of Rs. 1.50 lakh from the Complainant.

       A case was registered on a complaint. The complainant alleged that he had filed the IT return for the year 2012-2013 before ITO, Ward-I, Gudiwada. However, he had received a notice from ITO, asking explanation in respect of a cash deposit in his bank account. Despite furnishing all the information, the Complainant received notices and summons. The Complainant further alleged that the ITO called him to her office chamber & informed that she had decided to finalize his case and demanded a bribe of Rs.4 lakh for issuing final orders. Later on, she reduced the bribe from Rs.4 lakh to Rs.2.5 lakh and asked the Complainant to meet her for receiving the assessment order. CBI laid a trap and caught the Income Tax Officer red handed while demanding & accepting the bribe of Rs.1,50,000/- as part payment of total bribe from the Complainant.

       Further investigation is continuing.
