Dear Colleague,
Amidst the enchanting charm of Kochi, often referred to as the “Queen of the Arabian Sea,” the 2nd Conference on Review of Coastal Preventive formations was successfully convened, addressing a broad spectrum of critical issues related to the Marine Wing of CBIC. The nearly two-day conference provided a platform for in-depth discussions on enhancing the capacity and capability of the Marine Wing to strengthen patrolling and preventive operations along India’s vast coastline and riverine ports. Key topics included the maintenance of vessels, the availability of repairs and spares, HR-related challenges, and a forward-looking strategy to bolster the customs preventive setups. The deliberations were significantly enriched by the participation of the Indian Navy, the Indian Coast Guard, and the Kerala State Coastal Police, underscoring the importance of inter-agency collaboration in ensuring coastal security.
This Conference also gave the Board an opportunity to interact with the Marine staff and understand their perspectives and aspirations. Further, on the sidelines of the Conference, CBIC’s very own guest house in Kochi was inaugurated. I am confident that officers visiting the guest house in the future will not only admire its tasteful decor but also be captivated by the impressive painting made by Sh. R. Shyju, Assistant Commissioner, CGST Kochi, which adds a distinctive charm to the entrance, making it even more welcoming.
The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence, during last week, struck a major blow to smuggling syndicates by mounting operations at Mumbai and Kolkata leading to the seizure of 55.967 Kg of smuggled gold valued at Rs. 44.3 crore. Through meticulously planned operations, a complex modus operandi for smuggling gold was busted and 14 key members of the syndicates were arrested. Fantastic show by DRI!
Pune CGST has launched an innovative and engaging campaign aimed at spreading awareness about the importance of filing GST returns on time. The campaign features two captivating radio spots—one in Hindi and the other in Marathi—along with a catchy Hindi jingle composed by Shri Anwesh, Joint Commissioner, Pune CGST-II. These creative initiatives are now live on radio, ensuring wider outreach and making compliance-related communication both accessible and impactful for taxpayers. It is good to see the talent of officers being utilized for a novel cause.
Before I close, I would also like to extend a warm welcome to the Officer Trainees of the 76th batch of the Indian Revenue Service (Customs and Indirect Taxes), who commenced their journey at NACIN Palasamudram last week. The academy is well-equipped to nurture your skills, hone your abilities, and shape your personality in the months ahead, laying a strong foundation for a distinguished career in public service. Wishing you all the very best as you embark on this transformative phase!
Until next week!
Yours sincerely,
(Sanjay Kumar Agarwal)
All Officers and Staff of the Central Board of Indirect Taxes & Customs.
