DO No. 50/News Letter/CH(IC)/2024 Dated: 09th December, 2024
Dear Colleague,
The officer trainees of the 74th and 75th batches of the Indian Revenue Service (Customs and Indirect Taxes) had the honour of meeting the Hon’ble President of India recently. This interaction was an unforgettable moment for the young officers, as they received invaluable guidance and encouragement from the highest office of the nation. The wisdom and insights shared by the Hon’ble President will undoubtedly serve as a guiding light, inspiring them to uphold the highest standards of integrity and dedication in their service to the nation in the years to come.
The 67th DRI Foundation Day, celebrated last week, was a moment to remember and honour the legacy of excellence of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence in safeguarding India’s economic interests. The event showcased the remarkable contributions of DRI officers – past and present – whose vigilance has disrupted organized syndicates indulging in outright smuggling and commercial frauds. I extend my heartfelt congratulations to the officers who were felicitated with commendation certificates for their outstanding service and wish the entire team of DRI continued success in the future.
Nhava Sheva has witnessed a steady increase in trade volumes over the years. To cater to the growing needs of trade and enhance the efficiency of administration, the creation of additional infrastructure had become imperative. The Bhoomi Poojan ceremony for the construction of a new Annexe Building in JNCH Nhava Sheva was held last week. The new Annexe Building, designed with modern amenities and technical inputs from IIT-Mumbai, promises to alleviate office space constraints and consolidate Customs processes under one roof, thereby improving trade facilitation. This project reflects the Government’s dedication to creating a positive environment for trade while supporting the officers with state-of-the-art facilities.
During my interaction with the officers of JNCH, I noticed that innovative software solutions have been developed locally which have also received appreciation from the trade. First, e-SAMDHAAN, provides a step-by-step guide for grievance redressal related to export issues, offering a simple troubleshooting mechanism for resolving concerns. Second, an online platform for submission of application, uploading of requisite documents for Port Clearance and issuance of online Port Clearance Certificate which has dispensed with the manual processing of such applications. These initiatives demonstrate the power of local innovation and collaboration to achieve outstanding results and I would encourage all Customs formations to experiment and innovate at their level keeping Ease of Doing Business in mind.
NACIN gets another feather in the cap, with its Palasamudram campus being awarded the highest 5-star GRIHA rating by the GRIHA Council. A 5-star GRIHA rating signifies that the campus has achieved the highest level of sustainability according to the Indian Government’s Green Rating for Integrated Habitat Assessment (GRIHA) system, indicating it meets stringent standards for energy efficiency, water conservation, material usage, and overall environmental impact. This recognition makes it one of the first large-scale GRIHA 5-star projects in the country executed by CPWD. This accomplishment is a matter of pride for CBIC.
Until next week!
Yours sincerely,
(Sanjay Kumar Agarwal)
All Officers and Staff of the Central Board of Indirect Taxes 86 Customs.
