56th Meeting of GST Council has approved a reduction in the tax rate for various renewable energy products, lowering it from 12% to 5%. This change applies to a range of devices, including solar cookers and solar water heater systems. It also covers a broader category of renewable energy devices and their parts, such as bio-gas plants, solar power generators, wind mills, and waste-to-energy plants. Additionally, the new 5% rate will apply to photovoltaic cells and solar lanterns. The tax reduction also extends to fuel cell motor vehicles, including hydrogen-powered vehicles. These rate adjustments are intended to make renewable energy devices more accessible and promote the use of cleaner energy technologies.
