Central Board of Indirect Taxes & Customs (CBIC) celebrated the Passing Out Parade of the 74th Batch of IRS (Customs & Indirect Taxes) Officer Trainees at the NACIN campus in Palasamudram. Comprising 35 trainees, the event marked their transition into disciplined officers, with special commendations for medal recipients who set high standards of excellence. Quoting Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the trainees were reminded of the importance of character and service in public administration.
Aligning with government priorities, CBIC launched a Drug Disposal Campaign from January 10 to 25, 2025, focusing on the destruction of narcotic substances and raising public awareness about anti-drug initiatives. A notable action during this period involved Bhubaneswar Customs, where officials intercepted two passengers smuggling 9.524 kg of hydroponic marijuana worth ₹9.5 crore at Biju Patnaik International Airport. The campaign reflects CBIC’s commitment to combating drug trafficking with vigilance and efficiency.

Dear Colleague,
Last week, the Passing Out Parade of the 74th Batch of IRS (Customs & Indirect Taxes) Officer Trainees was held at the NACIN campus in Palasamudram. The parade, comprising 35 Officer Trainees, was a proud demonstration of their transformation into disciplined and capable officers, ready to serve the nation in the domain of indirect taxes. Their spirited march signified the principles of teamwork and commitment that will guide them in their future responsibilities. Also, my heartiest congratulations to the officers who were awarded medals during the Passing Out Parade. By setting a benchmark of excellence, they have not only earned this recognition but also inspired their peers to strive for greater achievements.
As these officers step into the public service, they would do well to remember the timeless advice of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the first Home Minister of Independent India, to civil servants:
“..the future of this service will depend much upon the foundation and traditions that will be laid down by you, by your character and abilities and by your spirit of service.”
In alignment with the priorities of the Government, the CBIC has launched a Drug Disposal Campaign from 10th to 25th January 2025. This campaign underscores our commitment to combating drug trafficking by ensuring the prompt and efficient disposal of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) ripe for destruction. The campaign also aims to promote public awareness of the initiatives being taken by CBIC in this regard. The field formations concerned should participate in this drive in letter and spirit.
In a significant action against NDPS substances, the officers of Bhubaneswar Customs Commissionerate, on the basis of profiling, intercepted two female passengers arriving from Kuala Lumpur at Biju Patnaik International Airport, Bhubaneswar. Upon systematic search of their checked-in baggage, 19 vacuum-packed transparent packets were recovered containing 9.524 kg of hydroponic weed (marijuana), valued at approximately Rs. 9.5 crore. Commendations to the team for their vigilance and swift action!
Wishing you a great week ahead!
Yours sincerely,
(Sanjay Kumar Agarwal)
