The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested a CGST Superintendent and Inspector from Giridih on 20 May 2026 in connection with an alleged bribery case involving GST compliance issues. According to the CBI press release, the case was registered after a complaint alleged that the officials demanded a bribe of Rs. 90,000 from a taxpayer for resolving an Input Tax Credit (ITC) mismatch matter and allegedly threatened to block the complainant’s GST registration if the payment was not made. Acting on the complaint, the CBI conducted a trap operation and allegedly caught both officials red-handed while accepting Rs. 50,000 as part payment of the demanded bribe. Following the arrests, searches were conducted at the office and residential premises of the accused officials. The arrested persons are to be produced before the competent court in Dhanbad. The CBI stated that the investigation in the matter is continuing.

CBI Arrests CGST Superintendent and Inspector in a Bribery Case

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), today, i.e. 20.05.2026, has arrested Superintendent and Inspector, CGST, Giridih, in a bribery case.

The CBI registered the instant case on 20.05.2026 on the basis of a complaint against the said accused persons.  It was alleged that the accused CGST Superintendent and Inspector demanded undue advantage of Rs. 90,000 from the complainant for resolving his Input Tax Credit (ITC) mismatch and threatened him to block his GST Number if he did not pay the bribe amount.

The CBI laid a trap and caught the accused Superintendent and Inspector red-handed while accepting undue advantage of Rs. 50,000, as part payment, from the complainant.

Searches were conducted at the office and residential premises of the accused public servant.

The accused persons will be produced before the competent court in Dhanbad.

Investigation is continuing.

    It’s really good, but it should apply for all government offices. & directly suspend on the spot. & occupy all there property & min 20 years send for jail.

    Modiji should see the attitude of the corrupt. Even in shut and close cases, there is ample scope to ‘manage’ to escape the Law. First thing the prosecution to do is to arrest and not to give bail and seize the property of the accused.
    As the advocates/lawyers refused to defend the Ajmal for fhis distardly acts, the legal fraternity should accept the cases from the corrupt only for deciding the quantum of punishment and not to prove a ‘wrong’ thing as right.
