TP Solar Limited, the solar manufacturing arm of Tata Power Company Limited, has reported substantial production achievements for the second quarter of the fiscal year 2027. The company, a wholly owned subsidiary of Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited, produced 1 gigawatt (GW) of solar modules and 0.9 GW of solar cells during the period from July to September 2026. This performance marks a significant step in TP Solar’s manufacturing capabilities, demonstrating a robust capacity ramp-up and enhanced operational efficiency.
For the first half of FY27, spanning April to September 2026, TP Solar reached a production milestone of 2 GW of modules and 1.8 GW of cells. These achievements highlight the company’s commitment to meeting the Domestic Content Requirement (DCR) norms, with products approved under the Government of India’s Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM). The manufacturing facility, located in Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu, is one of the largest single-location solar cell and module production sites in India, boasting a state-of-the-art capacity of 4.3 GW.
The facility is notable for its workforce composition, with nearly 80% of employees being women, underscoring Tata Power’s dedication to fostering an inclusive work environment. The company has invested approximately ₹4,300 crore in this facility, signifying a pivotal move towards indigenisation within the solar sector and reinforcing Tata Power’s strategic focus on self-sufficiency in solar manufacturing. The plant employs advanced technologies such as Tunnel Oxide Passivated Contact (TOPCon) and Monocrystalline Passivated Emitter and Rear Cell (Mono PERC), alongside AI/ML-driven systems and Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs), showcasing next-generation manufacturing capabilities.
This development aligns with Tata Power’s broader commitment to supporting India’s transition to a Net-Zero carbon future through local manufacturing capabilities. The company’s diversified portfolio, which includes a significant clean energy capacity, positions it as a leader in India’s energy sector. Analysts view these advancements as a positive step towards strengthening Tata Power’s position in the renewable energy market, contributing to the company’s long-term sustainability goals.
