The Government of India, through Notification No. 4 (RE-2004)/2004-2009 dated 17th September 2004, announced amendments to the ITC (HS) Classification of Export and Import Items under the Foreign Trade Policy (2004-2009). The notification affects the export policy for sea shells, including polished sea shells and handicrafts made from species not listed in the schedules of the Wild Life (Protection) Act, 1972, under HS Codes 0508 00 20, 0508 00 30, and 0508 00 50. The export policy for these items, earlier notified on 31st August 2004, has been kept in abeyance for six months. Consequently, the export rules in effect prior to 30th August 2004 will continue to apply during this period. This temporary measure was issued in public interest to ensure smooth regulation of sea shell exports. The notification was signed by K.T. Chacko, Director General of Foreign Trade.

NEW DELHI DATED THE 17th SEPTEMBER,2004

S.O. (E) In exercise of powers conferred by Section 5 of the Foreign Trade (Development & Regulation) Act, 1992 (No.22 of 1992) read with Paragraphs 1.2, 2.1 and 2.4 of the Foreign Trade Policy, 2004-2009, the Central Government hereby makes the following amendments in the ITC (HS) Classification of Export and Import Items, 2004-2009 notified under Notification No. 2 dated 31.8.2004:-

In the Schedule 2 of ITC (HS) Classification of Export and Import Items, the export policy of items at entry no. 41 in Chapter 5, HS Code No. 0508 00 20, 0508 00 30 and 0508 00 50 relating to sea shells, including polished sea shells and handicrafts made out of those species not included in the Schedules of the Wild Life (Protection) Act,1972 notified vide Notification No. 2 dated 31.8.2004 and earlier notified in 4-digits vide Notification No.45 dated 30.08.2004 may be treated to be kept in abeyance and the policy relating to these items in force before issue of above Notifications (prior to 30.8.2004) may be continued to be in force and operation till six months from the date of issue of this Notification.
