The Government of India, through the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), has amended the import policy for articles of jewellery made of platinum, specifically ITC HS Code 71131921, as per Notification No. 48/2025-26-DGFT dated 17th November 2025. Previously, imports of unstudded platinum jewellery were allowed freely. However, with immediate effect and until 30th April 2026, the policy has been changed from “Free” to “Restricted,” meaning imports will now require prior approval or adherence to conditions set by the DGFT. This amendment is issued under the powers of the Foreign Trade (Development & Regulation) Act, 1992, and aligns with the provisions of the Foreign Trade Policy 2023. The revision aims to regulate the import of platinum jewellery, potentially to manage domestic supply, safeguard trade interests, and control market dynamics. The change is officially approved by the Minister of Commerce & Industry and will remain in force till the specified date.

S.O. 5248 (E)- In exercise of powers conferred by Section 3 and Section 5 of Foreign Trade (Development & Regulation) Act, 1992, read with paragraph 1.02 and 2.01 of Foreign Trade Policy (FTP) 2023, as amended from time to time, the Central Government hereby amends the Import Policy of ITC HS 71131921 covered under Chapter 71of ITC (HS) 2022, Schedule —I (Import Policy), with immediate effect till 30.04.2026 as under.
