Government has Decided to Lift the Ban on the Export of Onions- The Government has decided to lift the ban on the export of onions. Onions can now be exported subject to a Minimum Export Price (MEP) of US$ 475 per tonne. This is exactly the position that was prevailing on 8th September 2011, immediately before the ban on the export of onions was imposed on 9th September 2011.

Commerce Secretary Shri Rahul Khullar said that,” The MEP will be reviewed every fortnight and a close watch would be kept on domestic arrivals, total exports, overall domestic availability and domestic prices”.

Subject:- Removal of ban on export of Onions.

 S.O. (E)             In exercise of powers conferred by Section 5 of the Foreign Trade (Development & Regulation) Act, 1992 (No. 22 of 1992) read with Para 2.1 of the Foreign Trade Policy, 2009-2014, the Central Government amends Notification No. 73(RE-2010)/2009-14 dated 09.09.2011 with immediate effect as follows.

Chapter 7

Edible Vegetables and Certain Roots and Tubers

Note 1 Reference to onions in this chapter includes onions fresh or chilled frozen, provisionally preserved or dried.

2. Effect of this notification:

The prohibition on export of onions is withdrawn and export of all varieties of onions is now allowed.
