The Government of India, through the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), has issued Notification No. 63/2025-26 dated 16 March 2026, amending the import policy for certain jewellery items under Chapter 71 of ITC (HS) 2022. Specifically, the import policy for items classified under ITC (HS) Codes 71131144 and 71131145, covering silver jewellery studded with diamonds or other precious and semi-precious stones, has been changed from “Free” to “Restricted.” Earlier, these items could be imported without specific authorization; however, under the revised policy, imports will now require government authorization or licensing. The change has been introduced under the powers granted by the Foreign Trade (Development & Regulation) Act, 1992, read with the Foreign Trade Policy 2023. The restriction will remain effective until 30 June 2026. The measure aims to regulate imports of certain studded jewellery products and strengthen oversight in the precious metals and gems trade sector while aligning with India’s broader trade and regulatory objectives.

S.O. 1361 (E).—In exercise of powers conferred by Section 3 and Section 5 of Foreign Trade (Development & Regulation) Act, 1992, read with paragraph 1.02 and 2.01 of the Foreign Trade Policy, 2023, as amended from time to time, the Central Government hereby amends the import policy of ITC (HS) code 71131144 and 71131145 covered under Chapter 71 of ITC (HS) 2022, Schedule – I (Import Policy) for the period up to 30.06.2026 with immediate effect:
