SEIZURE OF FAKE INDIAN CURRENCY NOTES (FICN) HAVING FACE VALUE OF RS. 12,90,500/-
Acting on a specific intelligence, the officers of DRI Siliguri, Siliguri Regional Unit under Kolkata Zonal Unit effected a seizure on 21 .05.2011 at 16.00 hrs. and recovered Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN) having total face value of Rs.12,90,500/- (2581 pcs. of Rs. 500/- denomination) from a luggage bag which was kept in a ‘Santro’ car bearing registration no. WB62B-1322, near a petrol pump at Ghoshpukur, P.O. & P.S. – Phansidewa, Dist-Darjeeling. On interrogation of the three passengers of the car viz. Md. Nasel Sheikh, Sri Sanjoy Kumar and Sri Lala, it was revealed that as per order placed by S/Sri Sanjoy Kumar and Lala of Kanpur, (U.P.), Md. Nasel Sheikh of Kaliachak, Malda, W.B. procured the entire FICN (12.90 lakh) from one Bishu of Bangladesh and subsequently handed over the same to them. The said FICNs were seized under section 110 of the Customs Act, 1962 on reason to believe that the same had been smuggled into India from Bangladesh. The vehicle used for carrying the FICN was also seized under the Customs Act’62. Three persons (Indian nationals) involved in smuggling/ possessing/carrying of the said FICN were arrested. Further investigation is in progress.
