The Central Bureau of Investigation has registered an FIR against three Customs officials—one retired Superintendent and two Inspectors—for alleged bribery and abuse of official position while posted with the Customs Preventive Force at Champhai, Mizoram. Acting on a complaint from the Additional Commissioner, CGST, Guwahati, the CBI alleged that during 2022–2023 the officials illegally detained consignments such as arecanuts and cigarettes without proper documentation and demanded bribes for their release. It is alleged that bribe payments exceeding ₹35 lakh were received across multiple instances, following which the seized goods were released. The FIR further alleges that goods valued at over ₹1.42 crore were found missing from government godowns in connection with seizures made between December 2022 and April 2023. Searches are underway at premises linked to the accused across multiple states, and the investigation remains ongoing.

CBI Registers Bribery Case against Three Customs Officials
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered FIR against 03 Customs officials including one Superintendent (Retired) and two Inspectors, on 03.02.2026, in a Bribery case. The case was registered based on a complaint from Additional Commissioner, CGST, Guwahati against the said accused who were earlier posted at Customs Preventive Force (CPF), Champhai, Mizoram, for abuse of their official position and receipt of illegal gratification for releasing smuggled goods in Mizoram. It was alleged that the Custom Officials posted at CPF, Champhai during the period 2022-2023 illegally detained arecanuts, cigarettes etc. without preparing any document and demanded illegal gratification/bribe from the persons concerned. On receipt of the bribe amounting to more than Rs. 35 Lakh in different instances, the confiscated goods were released. Further, it was also alleged that goods worth more than Rs. 1.42 crore were found to be missing from the available stocks at the godowns in respect of seizures effected in different cases from 23.12.2022 to 26.04.2023.
Searches are being conducted at the premises of above said accused persons at Itanagar (Arunachal Pradesh), Guwahati (Assam), Sikar (Rajasthan), Patna (Bihar), and Churachandpur (Manipur).
