FSSAI, exercising its authority under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, has issued a notification amending a previous order from 2017. This amendment adds two new laboratories to the list of designated Referral Food Laboratories in India. These laboratories are now authorized to perform functions as specified under the Act, based on their valid scope of accreditation.
The two newly notified laboratories are:
- Analytical Testing Laboratory, National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER) in Hyderabad, Telangana, with registration number 25/R/FSSAI/2025.
- Centre of Excellence for Research and Analysis of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances, National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU) in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, with registration number 26/R/FSSAI/2025.
- This notification, dated August 29, 2025, updates the existing list of referral food laboratories, with the last amendment having been made on May 29, 2025. This action expands the network of accredited facilities available for food safety testing and analysis across the country.

No. QA-12013/7/2021-QA-FSSAI.– In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (2) of section 43 of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 (34 of 2006), the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India hereby makes the following amendment in the notification number S.O. 97(E) dated the 10th January, 2017, published in the Gazette of India, Extraordinary, Part-II, Section 3, Sub-section (ii) on 12th January, 2017, and hereby notifies the following laboratories to carryout functions of referral food laboratory all over India and as per valid scope of accreditation, namely:-
1.In the TABLE, after serial number 22, the following entries shall be inserted in the respective columns, namely: –
