ICAI write letters to editors of Rashtriya Sahara, Aaj Tak Online, Navodaya Times, Rajasthan Patrika and Chauthi Duniya  regarding story published in their publication on mismanagement and Protest by Chartered Accountants during CA Day program held in New Delhi on 1st July 2017 which was  addressed by Honble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi.

Extract of letters are as follows:-

ICAI/Secy/July/2017

7th July, 2017

Mr. Vinod Raturi
Editor, Rashtriya Sahara
C-2-3-4, Sector-11
Noida- 201301

Dear Sir,

At the outset, I would like to mention that the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (hereinafter referred to as “ICAI”) has been set up by an Act of Parliament namely The Chartered Accountants Act, 1949 to regulate the profession of Chartered Accountants.

May please refer to the story that appeared in your publication on July 2, 2017 titled “Andar PM ka Karyakaram, bahar sarkar virodhi naare”.

The above referred story incorrectly portrays about incidents being reported at the venue of CA Day 2017 celebrations i.e. at Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium on July 1, 2017. It has been mentioned that force was used by the Police to control the crowd at the venue & Chartered Accountants were shouting slogans against the Govt.

We do admit that there was large congregation of people to attend the CA Day program being addressed by the Honble Prime Minister and to control the crowd, the entry to the auditorium was restricted by the security agencies but there certainly was no force used by the Police to manage the crowd as reported in your publication.

We would also like to bring to your notice that ICAI has always been supportive and contributing towards bold initiatives taken by the Government in strengthening the economic growth of our country. It is clarified that CAs were / are never against GST roll out or any other initiative of the Govt. as has been reported by your publication. In fact ICAI has taken several initiatives towards GST implementation and has supported the Govt. as partner-in-knowledge-dissemination and creating awareness in this regard. ICAI has set up GST Sahayata Desks all across the country and trained more than 1 lakh members in GST area in last 4 months.

We have the highest respect for the fourth estate of the democracy especially as a regulator of accountancy profession in our country. However, your news report is colored and has caused immense damage not only to the reputation of the ICAI but also the profession of Chartered Accountancy in India and abroad.

In view of above, we request you to take appropriate remedial measures by publishing suitable corrigendum / clarification on your publication at the earliest so as to clear the doubts in the minds of readers created by your story.

Your early reply in the matter shall be highly appreciated.

Thanking you,

Yours faithfully,

(V. Sagar)
