The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) has announced the panel responsible for scrutinizing nominations for the upcoming elections to the Twenty Sixth Council and the Twenty Fifth Regional Councils, scheduled for December 2024. As per the notification, issued on September 13, 2024, the panel includes CA Dr. Jai Kumar Batra, who serves as the Returning Officer and Secretary of ICAI, along with Shri Deepak Kapoor, Director General (Commercial-II) from the Comptroller & Auditor General’s office, and Shri Tharvinder Singh, Deputy Secretary of the Ministry of Corporate Affairs. Shri Tharvinder Singh was nominated by the Central Government under Rule 12(2) of the Chartered Accountants (Election to the Council) Rules, 2006. This panel will oversee the scrutiny of nominations as mandated under Rule 12 of the Chartered Accountants (Election to the Council) Rules, 2006, and Regulation 134 of the Chartered Accountants Regulations, 1988. The election process is crucial for the governance of ICAI, with members electing representatives to shape the direction of the institution for the next term.
