Amidst the rapid influx of various reports and articles alleging the disappearance of banknotes printed by banknote printing presses, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) finds it necessary to address the matter. With the objective of dissipating any confusion or misunderstanding that might have been fueled by these allegations, the RBI categorically negates these reports.
It has come to the attention of the Reserve Bank of India that certain sections of the media have been circulating reports regarding the alleged missing banknotes from the presses. The RBI, however, wishes to assert that these claims are unfounded.
These reports seem to be based on a misinterpretation of information that has been gathered under the Right to Information Act, 2005 from the printing presses. It is important to note that every banknote that emerges from the printing presses and is subsequently supplied to the RBI is meticulously accounted for.
The RBI further clarifies that they have instituted a robust system for the reconciliation of banknotes. This system involves protocols that carefully monitor the production, storage, and distribution of banknotes. This intricate and thorough procedure ensures that every single banknote is accounted for, thereby eliminating the possibility of any missing banknotes.
The public is, therefore, kindly requested to rely on the information that the RBI publishes periodically on such matters.
In light of these allegations, the RBI reaffirms its commitment to maintaining a thorough and transparent accounting system for the banknotes. The bank urges the public to place their trust in the information published by the RBI and refrain from speculation.
