Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has secured a conviction in a disproportionate assets case, sentencing former Deputy Commissioner, Shri P.R. Vijayan, and four of his family members to two years of rigorous imprisonment. The accused were found guilty of amassing assets worth Rs. 79,93,859/- during the period from July 2003 to July 2005, exceeding their known sources of income.

Two Years Rigorous Imprisonment With Total Fine Of Rs. 2.5 Crore To Former Deputy Commissioner, Central Excise & Customs And Four Other Family Members In A Disproportionate Assets Case

The Designated Court, CBI, Ernakulam (Kerala) has today sentenced Shri P.R. Vijayan, former Dy. Commissioner at Air Cargo Complex, Calicut Airport;   his wife Smt. Vasantha and daughters viz. Smt. Dhanya, Smt. Divya & Smt. Navya to undergo two years Rigorous Imprisonment with total fine of Rs. 2.5 crore.

CBI had registered a case on 27.09.2006 against the accused on the allegations that Shri P.R. Vijayan while working as Dy. Commissioner at Air Cargo Complex, Calicut Airport & also holding additional charge of Dy. Commissioner Air Customs, Calicut Airport   had amassed assets in his name and in the name of his family members including wife, 3 daughters, disproportionate to his known sources of income during the period from July 2003 to July 2005 to the tune of Rs. 79,93,859/-.

After investigation, a chargesheet was filed on 30.06.2008 against the accused. The Trial Court found said accused guilty and convicted them. Two accused were acquitted by the Court.
