CBI ARRESTS THREE SUPERINTENDENTS OF GST & CENTRAL EXCISE AND A PRIVATE PERSON IN AN ALLEGED BRIBERY CASE OF RS.10 LAKH

The Central Bureau of Investigation has arrested three Superintendents of GST & Central Excise, Bhubaneswar and a private person(Accounts Officer of a private Educational Trust/Institute) in an alleged bribery case of Rs.10 Lakh..

A case was registered against a Superintendent, GST & Central Excise, Bhubaneswar; a Senior Manager (Accounts) of a private Institute of Technology, Jatni, Khurda (Odisha); a private Institute of Technology, Jatni, Khurda (Odisha) and unknown officials on the allegations that the said Superintendent had issued a notice  to a private Institute of Technology, Ramachandrapur, Jatni, Odisha (an Educational Trust imparting higher education i.e. Management courses, B.Tech, Ph.D etc.) for submission of certain documents for FY 2017-2018 and subsequently, in the 3rd week of December, 2020, he visited the said institute/trust along with his team for inspection/audit.  It was further alleged that the accused demanded bribe of Rs.10 lakh from the concerned official of said Institute to settle the GST issues at very less amount of tax and not to raise violation matters.

 CBI laid a trap and caught the said Superintendent along with his other two  Superintendents and an Accounts Officer (Senior Manager, Accounts) of said private Institute while exchanging the alleged bribe of Rs.10 lakh between them. Searches were conducted at the premises of accused at Jatni (Khurdha) & Bhubaneswar which led to recovery of incriminating documents.

The arrested accused will be produced today before the Special Judge, CBI Cases, Bhubaneswar.

CBI ARRESTS AN ASSISTANT LABOUR COMMISSIONER FOR ACCEPTING BRIBE OF RS.60,000/-, AND RECOVERS CASH OF RS.52.09 LAKH(APPROX) DURING SEARCHES

New Delhi, 30.12.2020

The Central Bureau of Investigation has arrested an Assistant Labour Commissioner, Nagpur for demanding & accepting a bribe of Rs.60,000/- from the complainant.

A case was registered against an Assistant Labour Commissioner, working in the office of Labour Commissioner, Nagpur (Maharashtra) on a complaint. It was alleged that the Regional Labour Commissioner and Assistant Labour Commissioner, Nagpur had inspected the complainant’s firm and directed him to submit certain documents at the office of the Labour Commissioner. The complainant visited the Office of the Labour Commissioner to submit the documents. It was further alleged that instead of receiving the documents, the complainant was asked to meet the accused at his residence. The accused demanded the alleged bribe to settle the matter regarding irregularities related to safety site labour and also additional bribe amount to issue labour license.

CBI laid a trap and caught the accused while demanding & accepting a bribe of Rs.60,000/- from the complainant. Searches were conducted at the official and residential premises of the accused which led to recovery of cash of Rs.52.09 lakh(approx) and documents related to various investments.

The accused was produced today before the Special Judge for CBI Cases, Nagpur and remanded to Police Custody upto 02.01.2021.
