CBI ARRESTS AN INSPECTOR OF CENTRAL EXCISE IN AN ON-GOING INVESTIGATION OF BRIBERY CASE
The Central Bureau of Investigation has arrested an Inspector of Central Excise, Ahmednagar (Maharashtra) in an on-going investigation of a bribery case.
CBI has earlier registered a case against a Superintendent and two Inspectors of Central Excise Department posted at Ahmednagar (Maharashtra) u/s 120-B of IPC and Sec.7 of PC Act, 1988 on a complaint. It was alleged by the complainant that the said officials of Central Excise Department posted at Ahmednagar (Maharashtra) demanded bribe of Rs. 8 lakh from him for settling the matter of imposition of Excise Duty on the products of the factory owned by his son. Subsequently, the accused reduced the bribe amount to Rs.4 lakh on the request of the complainant and also threatened him that they will raid & seal his factories in case of non-delivery of the bribe amount.
CBI laid a trap and a Tax-Consultant (private person) was caught red handed at Ahmednagar, while demanding & accepting bribe of Rs. 2 lakh, as first instalment of total bribe from the complainant, on the alleged directions of the accused officials of Central Excise. Searches have been conducted in the office and residential premises of accused and the Tax-Consultant.
Further investigation is continuing.
