The Central Bureau of Investigation has arrested an Income Tax Officer, Bhadrak (Odisha), while demanding & accepting a bribe of Rs. 40,000/- from the complainant.
CBI had registered a case on a complaint alleging that the ITO, Bhadrak demanded a bribe of Rs. 50,000/- from the complainant for dropping penal proceedings against him and not to reopen assessment of previous years. Later, the accused agreed to accept illegal gratification of Rs. 40,000/-. CBI laid a trap and caught the accused red-handed while demanding & accepting a bribe of Rs. 40,000/- from the complainant. Searches were conducted at the office & residential premises of the accused which led to recovery of cash of Rs. Two Lakh (approx) and documents including properties papers.
The arrested accused is being produced today before the Designated Court, Bhubaneswar.
