The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) issued Public Notice No. 18(RE-2000) on 30th June 2000, amending Public Notice No. 3(RE-2000)/97-2002. The amendment revises Paragraph 2(g), which pertains to imports by charitable, missionary, or religious institutions. These institutions must now be registered under relevant laws governing societies or trusts, or approved by the Central or State Government. The amendment also stipulates that the importing institution must be well-established and serve the common benefit of the community. Additionally, institutions must provide necessary clearances under the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act, 1976 to complete the import process. This change aims to ensure that only genuine and compliant organizations benefit from duty-free imports for charitable purposes.
