The Government of India issued Notification No. 34 (RE-2001) on October 15, 2001, under the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, amending the ITC (HS) Classifications of Export and Import Items 1997-2002. In exercise of powers under the Foreign Trade (Development and Regulation) Act, 1992, the amendment specifically revised the Exim codes for certain imported items. Copra (Exim Code 120300 00), crude oil (Exim Code 151311 00), and other related items (Exim Code 151319 00) are now classified under “State Trading Enterprise” with imports allowed exclusively through the State Trading Corporation (STC). This change is subject to the provisions of Paragraph 4.8 of the Export and Import Policy, 1997-2002. The notification was issued by the Director General of Foreign Trade, N.L. Lakhanpal, with the objective of regulating these imports in the public interest.

NEW DELHI: 15th October,2001

S.O (E) – In exercise of powers conferred under section 5 of the Foreign Trade (Development and Regulation) Act, 1992 read with paragraph 1.3 and 4.1 of the Export and Import Policy, 1997-2002, the Central Government hereby makes the following amendments in the ITC(HS) Classifications of Export and Import Items , 1997-2002 published on 31st March, 1997 (RE-98) as amended from time to time, namely –
