The Central Bureau of Investigation has arrested its Dy.Supdt. of Police and four private persons for evasion of customs duty.

A case was registered against five persons for commission of offences punishable U/s 120-B r/w 420 IPC, Sec. 132 and 135 of Customs Act, 1962 and Sec. 13(2) r/w 13(1)(d) of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 on the basis of joint surprise check conducted by CBI and DRI in Arignar Anna International Airport, Chennai. During the surprise check, it was found that he misused his official position to facilitate the clearance of his known persons, who were coming from USA with dutiable goods, from the Customs Hall through Green Channel without payment of customs duty.

Since a few customs officials were suspected to have colluded with the aforesaid individuals, their role was also being probed into.

The arrested accused persons were produced before the Principal Special Judge for CBI Cases, Chennai and were remanded to Judicial Custody.
